Young Filmmakers Series 

October 11, 2024 

The Young Filmmakers Series on October 11, 2024 featured  four short films from Stephanie Cherng, Chazzel, Ivaldo Correia, and Leryant Krisdy, followed by a Q&A Panel Discussion. Learn more about the films, the filmmakers, and see images from the evening below.
Stephanie Cherng is a writer, filmmaker, and a comedian based in Brooklyn, New York. She has worked with the Tribeca Film Institute where she developed several shorts. Her first short narrative film premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. As a filmmaker she has been have been featured on MTV, ABC, NYC Media, and MTV. 

 

Kingdom of Demons (Synopsis): After witnessing the suicide of her lover, a young Asian-American woman named Grace is forced to confront the dark realities that drove her lover to end her own life.

Chazzel (she/her) is an aspiring producer and screenwriter committing to represent the stories of underrepresented communities. What she loves most about filmmaking is creating the obstacles in a story, as every narrative is a new adventure. Chazzel hopes to create worlds that inspires the next generation of storytellers.

 

Redamancy (Synopsis): After getting kicked out of his mother’s home, 15-year-old Jeremiah Moore must seek support from his older brother, Elijah Martinez, not knowing the dangers of his brother’s gang affiliation.

Ivaldo Correia is a multidisciplinary artist, originally Brazilian and currently based in NY, he began his contact with cinema working as a producer at the Rio International Film Festival, considered the largest film festival in Latin America. His first documentary, scripted and directed by him, was created in his participation in the Artistic Interventions Laboratory - Oi Kabum! Lab. The short documentary film entitled 111+ addressed the theme of racial justice, being selected for international festivals and conferences in countries including Germany and the United States. Today the artist is part of the mapping of black audiovisual creators in Brazil, with part of his productions cataloged and encouraging dialogue to think about other audiovisual languages ​​and to develop public policy actions for society, believing in art as a tool for transformation.

 

Pertencer/Belong (Synopsis): Three black performers/creators were provoked to think, through movement, about issues such as space, experience, our bodies and everything that brings us closer to each other. What do we see? How do they see us? Where is our place? Recover the sense of community, of belonging... Like a black mirror.

Lerryant Krisdy is an Indonesian filmmaker and graphic designer based in New York City. His first short film, Forget The Bomb In The Backyard, We're Fine! (2020) was commissioned by the European Union for their Europe On Screen film festival. His graphic design work focuses on film production needs such as pitch decks, posters, props, and social media content. He founded The Layar Project in 2023 as a way to provide more networking spaces for AAPI filmmakers.

 

Forget The Bomb In The Backyard, We're Fine! (Synopsis): On one night, two friends could not finish their college essays because they are too distracted by a bomb found in the parking lot.
